Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Eury De La Rosa started Saturday night with five no-hit innings and the Missions withstood a late Corpus Christi rally to claim the series opener 2-1 before 5,887 fans at Wolff Stadium.

De La Rosa (2-1), making his first start stateside since 2009, permitted two base runners over the first five frames. Colin Moran reached on a throwing error by De La Rosa in the first and Jio Mier worked a two-out walk in the fifth.

Roberto Pena's lead-off single in the sixth accounted for the lone knock against De La Rosa. The lefty walked one and fanned three, throwing 49 of 71 pitches for strikes.

Ruben Alaniz (6-4) turned in a solid start for the Hooks (39-29, 87-51), spreading two runs and six hits over 6.0 innings.

In the second, Kyle Gaedele worked a two-out and came around to score on Taylor Lindsey's double to right field.

A pair of infield singles opened the third and led to San Antonio's (29-39, 60-78) second run. Benji Gonzalez, who swiped a key bag in the frame, came home on an Alberth Martinez groundout.

Brandon Alger relieved De La Rosa in the seventh and promptly yielded a pair of base hits. Colin Moran cruised to third on a double off the bat of A.J. Reed, staging the tying run in scoring position. Conrad Gregor's RBI grounder was all the Hooks could muster, making it a 2-1 game.

Adam Cimber stranded two in the eighth. In the ninth, a parade of singles by Jack Mayfield, Gregor and Jio Mier loaded the bases against Chris Rearick. Leo Heras struck out and Pena hit a fly ball to right field, ending the game.

Michael Freeman, making his Double-A debut, and Tyler Brunnemann each tossed a scoreless inning out of the Hooks bullpen.

Corpus Christi aims to even the series Sunday. Kyle Westwood (10-7, 4.32) gets the ball for the Hooks. San Antonio counters with Bryan Rodriguez (6-13, 4.26). First pitch 6:05. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
