McCormick Placed on DL
June 5, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Mark McCormick was placed on the Disabled List with tendonitis in his right shoulder, the Swing of the Quad Cities announced Monday. The 43rd overall pick in the 2005 draft becomes the fourth member of the Swing's opening day starting rotation to land on the DL in a move that is backdated to June 2.
The righthanded flamethrower out of Baylor won his second game of the season on June 1, and is 2-4 with a 3.72 ERA this season. McCormick is second on the Quad Cities staff with 59 strikeouts and has held opposing hitters to a .201 batting average, but has also issued 38 walks - the second highest total in the Midwest League.
Replacing McCormick on the active roster will be Rich Giannotti, an outfielder that spent his first two seasons in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization after being selected in the 38th round of the 2004 draft out of the University of Miami. Giannotti played the entire 2005 season in the Midwest League with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, hitting .235 with 28 RBI in 105 games. After being released by the Angels during spring training of this year he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, and has spent the first part of the 2006 season at extended spring training on the State College roster.
The Swing of the Quad Cities roster currently stands at 25 active players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster is included in this release.
