Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL-The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that they have added outfielder Yusuf Carter out of extended spring training in Arizona. The 21 year-old outfielder takes the roster spot of pitcher Mike Billek, who was promoted to Daytona earlier on Monday.
Carter, the nephew of former Cub player and broadcaster Joe Carter, was originally drafted by the Cubs as a catcher out of El Paso Community College in the 12th round of the 2005 draft. He has made the transition to outfield during spring training and extended spring.
The right-handed hitting and fielding outfielder made his professional debut with Mesa in 2005. The Brooklyn, NY native hit .263 in 11 games with a homer, 8 RBIs, and 6 runs scored. The first game Carter plays in will be his first as a Chief as well as his first outside of extended spring in 2006. With the roster addition, the Chiefs roster stands complete at 25 players.
