Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Kade McClure and the Dash bullpen combined for a two-hit shutout, as the Dash claimed a 3-0 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats in front of 5,623 fans on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark.
McClure (1-0), who made his BB&T Ballpark debut in the series opener, was nearly flawless. After allowing two hits in the first inning, the right-hander pitched five straight hitless innings while striking out three and surrendering just one walk. In relief of McClure, Bennett Sousa pitched a scoreless seventh inning in his High-A debut. To close out the ballgame, Vince Arobio delivered two perfect innings with five strikeouts to earn the save.
The Dash (1-0, 39-26) jumped out to an early lead against Lynchburg (0-1, 32-36) starter Kirk McCarty (0-1). To start off the bottom of the first, Tyler Frost and Mitch Roman hit back-to-back singles. After Jameson Fisher struck out, Frost and Roman executed a double steal with Craig Dedelow at the plate to put runners at second and third. Dedelow then grounded a ball that was misplayed by second baseman Luke Wakamatsu, allowing Frost to score to make it 1-0.
Continuing the rally, Zach Remillard lined a single into center field to score Roman and increase the lead to 2-0.
Winston-Salem added to its lead in the bottom of the second. Leading off the frame, Jordan George flared a single into right field. Yeyson Yrizarri then grounded into a fielder's choice before a Frost single pushed him to third. Roman then capped the scoring with an RBI single to left to bring home Yrizarri.
With the victory, Winston-Salem has now won 21 out of its last 27 contests.
The Dash continue their series with the Hillcats on Friday night. Left-hander Konnor Pilkington (1-1, 5.04 ERA) is set to take the mound against right-hander Justin Garza (3-5, 4.90 ERA) for the Hillcats. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
The series with Lynchburg continues with a Fireworks Friday and live music on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sunday will be Latin American Jersey Day, and fans can get pregame autographs from the players before the game.
The Dash's three-game series against Myrtle Beach from Monday through Wednesday includes a Free Food Monday, $2 tacos on Tuesday and throwback Warthogs jerseys for Wednesday. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
