Augusta GreenJackets News Release

North Augusta, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) moved back to .500 with a 4-3 win over the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox) on COPA night at SRP Park. Augusta (21-21), playing as Los Pavos Salvajes de Augusta, got strong pitching from Jared Johnson and Jhancarlos Lara and homers from Nick Clarno and David McCabe en route to victory.

Jared Johnson made his second start of the year, and after giving up a 2-run homer in the top of the second inning the big Mississippi native found his best stuff. He finished his outing going a season high 3.2 innings, striking out six in that time, also matching his season high. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Augusta evened it up, after Justin Janas singled and Nick Clarno blasted his second homer of the year.

Jhancarlos Lara (W, 2-2) entered in the fifth inning, and promptly retired the first nine batters he faced. Augusta took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Jair Casanova groundout, his 19th RBI of the month. With the score 3-2 and runners at second and third, Lara struck out back to back batters in the top of the eighth, finishing his outing with six punchouts. In the bottom of the frame, David McCabe drove a home run into the Savannah River, his sixth of the season. He ties Jeremy Celedonio for the team lead in both homers (6) and runs batted in (21).

Elison Joseph entered for the top of the ninth, and despite a run scoring on a groundout, he was able to secure the save, his fourth on the season. The win pushes the GreenJackets back to .500. They have now won seven of the nine games against Kannapolis this season.

The GreenJackets remain at SRP Park for three more games against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox). For tickets, information on promotions, and more, visit greenjacketsbaseball.com.
