Mavs losing streak reaches five

July 1, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Mid-Missouri Mavericks News Release

As the Mid-Missouri Mavericks have learned this year, anything and everything goes wrong during a losing streak.

Yesterday, the Mavericks fell 9-8 to River City at T.R. Hughes Ballpark despite belting out four home runs. River City's Mike Madrid singled home Mike Conner with 1-out in the bottom of the ninth, completing the dramatic victory for the Rascals (18-15). River City fought back from behind three times, as Mid-Missouri (11-22) lost their fifth straight game.

On the bright side, Dusty Hillman, Eli Albertson, Thomari Story-Harden and Brent Metheny all went deep for Mid-Mo. Metheny's home run was a towering 3-run moon-shot that cleared the 35-foot right field fence in the third inning, giving the Mavericks a 6-1 lead at that point. The blast also extended Metheny's hit streak to 18 games, which is currently the longest in Frontier League play.

However, ineffective Mavericks' pitching continually allowed River City to claw back into the ballgame. Starter Danny Shuck allowed six runs and nine hits in six innings, including a pair of home runs to leadoff hitter Kirk McConnell, who finished the game with 6 RBI's. Cooper Eddy(0-2) was tagged with the loss, handing out three runs in 2.1 innings.

The Mavericks are now 0-3 on the season versus their Eastern Missouri rivals. Mid-Mo will look to pick up their first win against River City tonight at 7:05 PM from T.R. Hughes. Catch the game live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.
