Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks announced Wednesday a partnership with the organization Warriors' Best Friend, a group that rescues dogs from area shelters and trains them as service dogs for wounded veterans.

The Mavericks will 'adopt' a dog from the organization, based in Kansas City, to be cared for by team personnel until it is ready to begin formal service dog training.

Founded in late 2013, the non-profit organization's mission is to capitalize on the powerful animal-human bond and empower veterans to return to civilian life with dignity and independence through the help of their dog's assistance and companionship, free of charge.

The dog, a 4-month old Weimaraner puppy, will appear at various team events this season. Fans will get their first look at Mave at Friday's game at the Warriors' Best Friend table along the concourse.

This partnership is one of a variety of ways the Mavericks give back to those who have served in the military, with the club also having partnerships with the VetTix ticketing program, Freedom Friday discounts for military personnel, the team's Military Appreciation Weekend in January (25th and 26th this season) and more.

More information on Warriors' Best Friend can be found at their website, warriorsbestfriend.org, or by following them on Instagram and Facebook (warriorsbestfriend).
