Thunder Snaps Skid with Win over Mavericks

Wichita, KS - Behind a 33-save effort from Dylan Wells, Wichita snapped a five-game winless skid on Tuesday night with a 5-2 victory over Kansas City at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Wells earned his first win as a pro and was named as the number one star of the game. Travis Brown scored twice to pace the Thunder offense while several others had multi-point outings.
Mark MacMillan broke the scoreless tie at 9:17 of the first period. He found a rebound near the crease and slid it past Mason McDonald to make it 1-0. At 18:40, Cliff Watson tied the game. Right off a face-off, he moved to the deep slot and beat Wells with a long slap shot. Wichita re-took the lead with just two seconds left on the clock. Brown moved across the blue line and fired a long wrist shot to make it 2-1 with a power play goal.
In the second, Brown recorded his second of the game on the man advantage. He fired another long shot at 2:48 for his seventh of the season to increase the lead to 3-1.
Lane Bauer got into the act at 3:59 of the third. He caught a board pass up the left wing, came down on a two-on-one and beat McDonald to the glove side for his first of the season to make it 4-1. At 7:19, Jakob Stukel scored a highlight reel goal to make it 5-1. He got around a defenseman during a one-on-one chance, slid the puck to the right and superman dove with one hand on his stick to slide it through McDonald's five-hole for his fourth of the season.
Kansas City added a late tally from Jared VanWormer, but the Thunder smothered the Mavericks the rest of the way for the win.
Wichita extended its power play streak to seven-straight and 12 markers on the man advantage over its last nine contests. The Thunder have outscored Kansas City at home by a 9-2 margin.
Steven Iacobellis recorded two helpers and extended his point-streak to 12 games. MacMillan has goals in three-straight since returning to the Thunder line-up. Dyson Stevenson collected three assists, which is a new season-high for assists in a game by a Thunder player. Keoni Texeira added an assist, giving him helpers in seven-straight games.
Wichita went 2-for-4 on the power play. Kansas City was 2-for-8 on the man advantage.
The Thunder hits the road for the next three games, starting Friday in Texas against the Allen Americans at 7:05 p.m.
