Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Independence, MO (December 2, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks (8-9-0-0) came from behind on Tuesday night at the Independence Events Center to defeat the Quad City Mallards (7-6-3-2) for the third straight time this season. All three wins by the Mavs over the Flock have been by one goal.

John-Scott Dickson erupted for two third period goals erasing a 2-1 deficit for the Mavericks who win for the third time in 10 games that they have trailed following two periods of play. For Dickson, it was his first two goals of the season and is just the third game of the season for the forward who battled injuries to start the 2014-15 campaign.

"It was a great night for John-Scott (Dickson) and I am very happy for him," said Missouri Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. "He is a heart and soul guy and a huge fan favorite and to see him have such a presence in the win was exciting for the entire team."

Missouri started strong in the first frame outshooting the Mallards 12-6 and scoring the period's only goal. Sebastien Thinel struck for his fifth goal of the season at the 9:09 mark ending a personal seven game goalless stretch. Thinel would also add an assist later in the game and was a +3 for the night (leads the team with 16 points).

The visiting Mallards rebounded in the second period scoring twice with Mario Lamoureux striking at the 8:42 mark and Joe Perry scoring his 10th goal of the season at the 15:14 mark giving Quad City a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Then Dickson would take over in the third period leading the comeback for the Mavericks who saw the line of Dickson, Thinel and David Rutherford (2 assists) combine for three goals and three helpers to go along with a +7 plus/minus rating.

Missouri outshot the Mallards in the game, 33-20, as Mike Clemente made 18 saves improving to 5-6 on the season. Clemente has now won three of his last four decisions.

"It was a complete game and our work leading up this game really paid off," added Matvichuk. "Our guys were in the right spots and it all started with good defensive zone coverage. Anything they got, we gave it to them. I am very pleased with the effort from everyone."

Quad City's Parker Milner made 30 stops falling to 3-4-1-1 on the season (is 0-2-1-1 in his last four decisions).

Both teams failed to convert on the power play with Missouri going 0 for 2 and Quad City going 0 for 3 in the game.

Missouri returns to the ice on Saturday night when they host the Tulsa Oilers at the Independence Events Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (CST). Fans are invited to bring new or gently used teddy bears and stuffed animals (wrapped in plastic bags) to the game on Saturday for "Teddy Bear Toss" night. When the Mavs score their first goal of the contest, fans can throw them onto the ice to be collected and donated to local children in need.
