
Fort Wayne's Meurs Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Garrett Meurs of the Fort Wayne Komets is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 24-30.
Meurs scored four goals and added one assist for five points last week as the Komets went 3-0-0.
The 21-year-old scored Fort Wayne's only goal during regulation in a 2-1 win against Indy on Thursday, tallied another goal in a 4-1 victory at Kalamazoo on Friday and had three points (2g-1a) in a 6-4 win over Orlando on Saturday.
A native of Wingham, Ontario, Meurs enters this week on a four-game goal streak and he has six points (4g-2a) in eight games with the Komets this season. He has also seen action in three games with Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.
Under contract to the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey Leaue, Meurs had 14 points (6g-8a) in 64 games with Lake Erie as a rookie last season. Prior to turning pro, he recorded 192 points (78g-114a) in 265 career games with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League.
On behalf of Garrett Meurs, a case of pucks will be donated to a Fort Wayne youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 31,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
