Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Rapid City, SD - The Missouri Mavericks fall 4-3 in the shootout to the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, picking up 3 out of a possible 4 points from their weekend series against the Rush.
The Rush opened the scoreboard with a 2-0 lead in the first period with 2 power-play goals from J.P. Chabot and Jesse Schultz at 8:20 and 15:14 respectively.
The Mavs found their stride in the second period, scoring three times to take a 3-2 lead over the Rush, first with a tally by Dallas Ehrhardt, his second goal of the season, assisted by Patch Alber and Jack Downing at 1:43 of the second frame. John-Scott Dickson then tied the game up 2-2 at 4:46 with the help of David Rutherford and Patch Alber, before Evan Vossen captured the 3-2 lead at 16:44. David Rutherford and Jonathan Narbonne were credited with the assists on Vossen's goal.
Missouri held onto their 3-2 lead through majority of the third period, until Dylan Clarke, assisted by Sean Erickson and Jeremy Gates, tied the game up 3-3 at 16:06. When the game remained tied through the end of regulation, the decision was sent to overtime.
Five minutes of extra hockey could not produce a winner in this heated matchup, and so the contest progressed to a shootout decision, the Missouri Mavericks' second shootout contest in the past week.
Josh Brittain was the only Mavs skater to score in the shootout, and goaltender Mike Clemente was ultimately bested by Jesse Schultz and Joey Sides (both of whom scored goals in the Mavs/Rush Friday night matchup) for the extra point.
The Mavericks and Rush will face-off a total of 15 times during the 2014-15 regular season, with the series knotted up 3-3 after this weekend's split decisions.
The Mavs play their next game on the road in Wichita, KS against the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday night ahead of their annual New Year's Eve home game at Independence Events Center. Family 4-Packs are still available for this game online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center. Fans are invited to sign-up for the post-game skate with the team and family-friendly countdown to 2015! Skate rental is only $5 per person. Register at the ticket table behind section 109 or by calling the Mavericks at 816-252-7825 during normal business hours.
