Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers overcame a 3-1 third period deficit on Sunday evening and finally put an end to a six-game losing streak in a dramatic 4-3 victory over the pesky Allen Americans in front of 4,104 at the BOK Center. Adam Pleskach and Scott Macaulay registered the game-tying and game-winning goals just 27 seconds apart in the late stages of regulation to snap a four-game skid on home ice and give the Oilers just their second win over the Americans in the last nine meetings.
Tulsa defenseman and captain, Nathan Lutz, gave the home team an early advantage at the 3:31 mark of the first period. A circle-to-circle pass from Drew Fisher was snapped home by Lutz for his third goal of the season. Allen answered at 10:29 of the first with a power play tally from Ian Schultz that leveled the contest at 1-1. The Americans moved in front at 18:06 on the strength of another power play strike from Jamie Schaafsma. Allen scored twice on three power play chances in the first period and carried a 2-1 lead into the second.
With Tulsa center Jon Booras in the box for slashing early in the middle frame, the Allen power play capitalized once again. Schultz pounced on a rebound in front of Oilers goalie Kevin Carr for his second goal of the evening to provide the Americans with a two-goal cushion. The Oilers surrendered three power play goals in a single game for the first time since opening night on October 24 when the Americans went 3-for-5 with the man-advantage in a 9-6 Tulsa win.
The Americans, who had not lost a game in regulation in the month of December, carried a mark of 15-0-0 when leading after two periods. The Tulsa comeback began at 7:23 of the third when Booras backhanded a pass to the tap of Tommy Mele who flipped the puck past a sprawling Riley Gill to slice the Americans' lead in half. Nine minutes later, the Oilers found the equalizer off the stick of Adam Pleskach. The second-year winger posted himself on top of the Allen crease and deflected a pass from Lutz through the legs of Gill to square the contest at 3-3. Just six seconds after the ensuing face off, Americans forward Brett Lyon, the ECHL leader in penalty minutes, was whistled for high-sticking. The Oilers power play, lack-luster through most of the evening, came to life to create the game-winning goal. From behind the Allen net, T.J. Caig fired the puck to Macaulay who rocketed a slap shot past a screened Gill. Macaulay's fourth goal of the season pushed the Oilers in front 4-3 and the Americans were held at bay for the final 2:55 of regulation.
Carr made 30 saves and Lutz, Fisher, Pleskach, and Booras each chipped in a pair of points to halt the Oilers longest losing streak since December of 2012. Tulsa moved back to .500 at 14-14-1-2 while Allen failed to earn a point for the first time in 12 games.
The Oilers will play the second game of a five-game home stand on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
