Mavericks Lose Third Straight to Thunder
December 7, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks have taken their third straight loss at the hands of the Wichita Thunder. Tied for two periods with one goal apiece, the Mavericks could not find their way to the back of the Wichita net to pull the game in their favor, but Wichita forward, Jon Booras tallied a goal for the Thunder to take the momentum of the match in the third period for the win.
Ian Lowe scored first for the Thunder in period one, assisted by Jon Booras five minutes into play. Rob Kleebaum would answer back for the Mavericks four minutes later with an unassisted short-handed goal on the Mavericks penalty kill to get the equalizer.
The two teams would stay tied at 1-1 for the remainder of the first period and carry the same score through the second period. Twenty-two penalty minutes were distributed between the teams in the second period.
The Mavericks held control of scoring opportunities with double the shots on goal attempts of the Wichita Thunder, but it was Jon Booras at the 11:40 mark of the third who would put up the game winning goal for his team.
In a frenzy of tension on the ice, Colt King was assessed a roughing penalty, a penalty which teammate John-Scott Dickson did not agree with, and when he let the referee know his feelings, Dickson was promptly assessed a ten-minute game misconduct penalty for abuse of an official. King now equally upset at Dickson's removal from the game, let his feelings be known, and was handed the same ten-minute penalty for abuse of an official.
The Mavericks will not meet the Wichita Thunder again until Saturday, January 18, 2014 at home.
The Mavericks play their next game on Saturday night against the Arizona Sundogs at the Independence Events Center. The puck drops at 7:05pm.
The Missouri Mavericks are excited to offer fans the new Mavericks Bud Light Good Times Seats. The promotion includes a center ice ticket, and vouchers for two FREE Bud Light drafts or fountain drink sodas. It's a $50 value for only $30! Bud Light Good Times Seats available for purchase at the Box Office day of game only.
