Arizona Sundogs News Release
Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs couldn't hold on after the Missouri Mavericks scored the game winner late in third securing their 2-1 win over Arizona Saturday night at the Independence Event Center.
The first period remained scoreless despite a few great advantages for both teams. Arizona received an early power play 1:39 into the frame when the Mavericks' Colten Hayes was called for tripping but couldn't capitalize. The Sundogs would give up another man-advantage to the Mavericks when Alex Tuckerman was given two minutes for a holding stick minor and 1:15 later Matt McCready was given two for hooking. Regardless of the 5-on-3 man advantage the Sundogs successfully killed off their penalties preventing Missouri from scoring.
4:10 into the second period and Arizona lit the lamp, with a shot from Alex Tuckerman as he ripped the puck past Missouri's goalie Shane Owen. Jason Morgan and Justin Pender each picked up the assists. With 1:04 left in the middle frame, the Mavericks registered their own goal when Mike Ramsey knotted the game, lifting the puck over the stick side of Arizona's Chris Rawlings. Andrew Courtney tallied the game winner 8:08 into the third with assists from Trevor Kell and Dave Pszenyszny securing the win for the Mavericks.
Rawlings took the loss for the Sundogs despite making a couple great saves between the pipes. Rawlings blocked 26 of 28 shots on net. Neither team took advantage of their man-advantages tonight with Arizona 0-5 on the power play and Missouri 0-5.
Arizona travels back to Tulsa for their third game in three nights when they face-off against the Oilers at the BOK Center at 3:05PM before heading back to Missouri in their final game of the regular season on Tuesday.
