Tulsa Oilers News Release

WICHITA, KS - In one of his best performances of the season, Tulsa goaltender Shane Madolora turned aside 32 of the 33 shots he faced and sparked the Oilers to a 4-1 road victory over the Wichita Thunder on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Oilers, who recorded only eight road wins last season, earned their sixth road triumph of the year and improved to 4-1-0 against Wichita.

Off a pass through the crease from Ryan Menei, Tulsa forward Kyle Bochek pounded the puck past a sprawling David Brown to open the scoring at 5:48 of the first period. The Thunder responded on the very next shift of the game as Erik Lizon slid a shot past the pad of Madolora for his goal of the season. Just 30 seconds after Bochek's tally, the game was knotted at 1-1.

The contest remained even until the 8:20 mark of the second period when Scott Macaulay's wrist shot was deflected in by Ben Gordon to give the Oilers a 2-1 advantage. Gordon's tenth goal of the year extended his point streak to eight games. Eight minutes later, Macaulay accelerated down the middle of the Thunder zone received a pass on the tape from Kyle Bochek which he immediately deposited past the glove of Brown and into the net. Macaulay's first goal of the season and first goal as an Oiler gave the visitors a 3-1 edge heading into the final frame.

Tulsa clamped down on the Thunder attack over the final 20 minutes and Madolora made several stops from close range to preserve the lead for the Oilers. Michel Beausoleil capped off the win with an empty net goal at 18:55 and the Oilers put an end to Wichita's three-game win streak.

The Oilers have earned two points in three consecutive trips to Wichita for the first time since the 2010-11 season and have won 12 of their last 16 contests overall. Madolora recorded his tenth win of the season as Tulsa allowed its lowest goal total since shutting out the Thunder on November 6 at the BOK Center.

The Oilers will look to wrap up the weekend with a third straight victory when they host the Arizona Sundogs at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
