Mavericks Fall to Americans, 4-3

ALLEN, Texas - The Missouri Mavericks lost to the Allen Americans, 4-3, in a hard-fought battle Saturday night at Allen Event Center. Americans' forward Jason Deitsch had two goals and an assist in the win and Jarret Lukin added a pair of assists for the Americans. Brandon Coccimiglio, Andrew Courtney and Kris Hogg all scored for the Mavericks (32-20-6) who will return home Sunday afternoon to take on the Tulsa Oilers at 4:05 p.m. at Independence Events Center.

Allen had seven power play opportunities in the game but did not score on the power play while the Mavericks finished 1-for-3 with the man advantage. Mavericks' goaltender Charlie Effinger stopped 37 of 41 shots in the loss and seven different Mavericks finished with one point.

"We need a strong comeback tomorrow in front of our fans," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "A few guys had a real tough night and we need all players at 100 percent if we are going to beat any team in this league."

The Mavericks answered both of the Americans first two goals and the teams were tied heading into the third period, 2-2. Missouri took their first lead of the game at 3-2 when Hogg scored on the power play with assists from Ed McGrane and Dave Pszenyczny. Hogg's goal came just 1:07 into the final period, but the Americans answered with the final two goals of the game. First, Mark Nebus scored at the 8:02 mark to tie the game at 3-3. He was assisted by Brian McMillin and Jeff Martens. The Americans scored the game winner when Keith Johnson scored with 4:11 remaining regulation on assists from Deitsch and Lukin.

Allen forward Jason Deitsch scored the lone goal in the first period with just over 19 seconds remaining in the opening period. The Mavericks answered that goal when Coccimiglio took a feed from John-Scott Dickson and beat Americans' netminder Rejean Beauchemin just 1:50 into the second period. Beauchemin stopped 24 of 27 shots in the win for the Americans.

Deitsch scored his second of the game on a partial breakaway to regain the lead for the Americans at 2-1 in the second period, but the Mavericks tied the game on Courtney's unassisted goal at the 14:18 mark of the middle frame. Hogg scored early in the third period, but the Mavericks' lead lasted for less than seven minutes as the Americans scored the final two goals of the game.

Missouri returns home for a Sunday afternoon game against the Tulsa Oilers at Independence Events Center. Faceoff for Sunday's game is 4:05 p.m. and it is the Mavericks' annual Faith and Family Night.
