March 10, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Rapid City, SD - Wichita (39-16-2) tied the game three separate times, but was unable to own a lead and Rapid City (32-19-6) stopped the Thunder's winning streak at five, claiming a 5-3 win on Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Thomas Beauregard had two points and Brett Hemingway scored in his first game back since late January despite the loss.
Rapid City got things going just seven minutes into the contest as Konrad Reeder beat Thunder starter Adam Russo to make it 1-0.
Kevin Seibel (6) tied the game at one at 3:36 of the second period when he collected a pass at the top of the right circle and blasted it past Rush goalie Tim Boron. Reeder regained the lead for the Rush with his second on the night at 10:41. Rapid City was awarded a five-on-three power play and capitalized as Reeder intercepted a clearing attempt and put it past Russo. Wichita tied the game at two at 18:43 as Chris Chappell (11) drove the net after getting around the defenseman at the right circle and made a nice move to beat Boron.
In the third period, Anthony Perdicaro gave Rapid City a 3-2 lead when a dump-in by the Rush rode the rail along the right corner boards, popped off the window right in front of the Thunder goal and Perdicaro put it into the empty net. Wichita came right back to tie the game at three as Brett Hemingway (14) sniped one just under the bar at 5:36 that was initially waved off. After the next stoppage in play, the official spoke to his linesmen and determined that the goal was good. However, Rapid City scored twice more, once from Andrew Smale and an empty-net goal from Scott Wray to seal the deal for the Rush, winning 5-3.
The Thunder winning streak was stopped at five, one shy of tying its season-long streak. Wichita has lost the last three contests to Rapid City with two more to go in the season-series (3-3). Francis Trudel extended his point streak to six games, scoring nine points in that span. Wichita also fell for the just the third time on the road in regulation against the Turner Conference, now 9-3-2. Wichita still leads the Berry Conference over Allen, who closed the gap to seven points with a win over Laredo earlier this evening. The Thunder still holds a two-point advantage over Evansville in the race for the Governor's Cup as the IceMen won tonight in a shootout.
Wichita closes out its five-game road swing tomorrow night against Rapid City and will return to the Air Capital on March 14th against the Rush. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com .
