Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to the Texas Brahmas 5-4 in a shoot-out.
The Laredo Bucks and the Texas Brahmas took to the ice for the eleventh time this season Saturday night in North Richland Hills. The last time these two teams met was February 11th, where the Brahmas narrowly beat the Bucks 2-1.
The Bucks travelled to North Richland Hills missing two important members of their roster- Neil Trimm and Matt Pierce. The already depleted Bucks also lost David Inman due to an upper body injury leaving them with only 13 skaters for the game.
The first period was very transitional for both teams. Laredo's special teams stayed busy, initially with a powerplay opportunity then they killed three straight powerplays for the Brahmas. Laredo had several short-handed scoring chances, but were unable to break thru and score. Torrie Jung made a couple of great saves to keep the game scoreless. The Brahmas outshot the Bucks 8-5 in the opening frame.
The Bucks special teams took over in the second period. Rusty Masters put the Bucks on the board, when he scored with a one-timer on a 5 on 3 powerplay. Ryan Sparling and Adam Rivet assisted on the goal at 2:08 in the period that gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead. Laredo scored another powerplay goal when A.J. Hau lit the lamp at 5:19. Matt Boyd and Adam Rivet assisted on the goal giving the Bucks a 2-0 lead. The Brahmas immediately came back and scored a goal after a turnover in the zone at 6:48, making it a one goal game. Laredo's special teams went to work again, this time Trevor Hunt scored a short-handed goal off a one-time blast at 11:20. A.J. Hau assisted on the goal. Texas battled back again at 13:42, when they knocked in the rebound closing the gap 3-2. The Bucks outshot the Brahmas 10-8 in the middle frame.
Laredo started out quickly again in the third period. Ryan Sparling backhanded a top shelf goal only 2 minutes into the frame. A.J. Hau and Kyle Mariani assisted on the goal that gave the Bucks a 4-2 lead. One minute later, the Brahmas made it a one goal game once again with a goal from Chad Woollard. Texas would tie the game 4-4, when T.J. Fox found the net at 10:11. The third period would draw to a close with the game still tied. The Brahmas outshot the Bucks 12-3.
Early in the extra frame, Torrie Jung made a tremendous poke check to keep the Brahmas from scoring on an odd man rush. The game could not be decided during the extra five minutes of play, so the teams went into a shoot-out.
The Bucks would be unable to put the puck past the Texas netminder during the shoot-out. Torrie Jung was able to deny all but the final shooter for the Brahmas. Adam Hogg got the puck past Jung, giving Texas the 5-4 win.
The Bucks will now return home to play their final regular season home game TOMORROW, Sunday, March 11th versus the Arizona Sundogs at 4pm. Don't miss a minute of the action, contact the Laredo Bucks today to get your tickets at 718-BUCK (2825)!
