Oilers Struggles Continue in 6-2 Loss to Mallards

March 10, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

MOLINE, IL - In a battle of two playoff hungry teams, it was the Quad City Mallards who showed how to find the back of the net in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers at i wireless arena.

The Oilers, who fell in overtime on Friday to the Mallards, peppered Quad City goalie David McKee with 39 shots but only Gary Steffes and Dylan Clarke were successful in solving the Mallards netminder.

After a scoreless first period, Quad City came to life in the middle frame with goals from Justin Hofstetter, John Snowden and Justin Chwedoruk. Steffes' late tally pulled the Oilers back within two as they headed to the second intermission.

Dylan Clarke, who recorded a season-high 12 shots on goal, scored on a partial breakaway at the 14:18 mark of the third to cut the Quad City lead to one and give the Oilers hope. The momentum was promptly squashed by an onslaught of Mallards offense. Quad City, which got goals from Brandon Marino, Chwedoruk, and Sean Flanagan, scored three times in the span of two minutes to put the game away.

The loss is the Oilers seventh straight road setback and their record dropped to 1-6-1 in the last eight overall.
