NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Adam Hogg scored the only goal in the shootout Friday night, lifting the Brahmas to a 4-3 win over the Mavericks.
The Brahmas held a 2-1 lead entering the third period behind goals from Dan Nicholls and Chad Woollard. For Woollard, it was his 280th career CHL goal, moving him into sole possession of eighth place on the league's all-time goal-scoring list.
Midway through the third period though, Missouri's John-Scott Dickson and Ed McGrane scored back-to-back goals within 30 seconds to give the Mavs a 3-2 lead with only 8:57 to play in regulation. After Missouri netminder Charlie Effinger deflected a Jim Burichin wrister away, Phil Fox buried home the rebound to even the score at three.
After a scoreless overtime period, Hogg beat Effinger on the backhand side with the only conversion in the shootout. Brahmas' goaltender Mark Guggenberger made 29 saves on 32 shots and turned away all five Missouri attempts in the shootout. Effinger stopped 23 of 26 shots.
The Brahmas are back in action Saturday, March 10 when they face off against the Laredo Bucks at 7:30pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas (31-19-8) would clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Bucks and a Killer Bees' regulation loss.
