Lee's Milestone Goal Leads Bees to 5-2 Victory

HIDALGO, Texas- In the continued fight for a playoff spot, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (28-26-7) defeated the Arizona Sundogs (17-33-9) on Saturday night with a final score of 5-2. Aaron Lee scored a milestone goal in the win for the Bees. Lee's 90th goal with the Bees has now tied him with Bill Newson for the all-time goals scored record for the Killer Bees.

The first period was calm until 16:39 into the period when Scott Balan put one past Arizona goaltender, Scott Reid, from the top of the right circle for an unassisted goal.

The Bees led by one going into the locker room as Arizona remained scoreless in the first period.

The second period saw one goal from Arizona which tied the game at 1-1 with 12:29 left in the period.

After the lone Sundogs goal, the Bees quickly rallied and broke the tie with a four goal scoring streak for the period. Lee started off the streak at 9:36 into the second period with a milestone shorthanded goal from the slot, making it his 31st goal of the season and 90th with the Bees. The assist went to Jason Dixon.

Minutes later at 13:05 into the period, Reid Edmondson found the back of the net from the bottom of the right circle. Mike Wilson and Nicolas Rioux earned the assists.

Brandon Campos continued the scoring streak with a power play goal at 16:57 into the period. Campos took the feed from Dan Gendur and put the puck past Scott Reid from the bottom of the left circle.

Aaron Boogaard capped the period's four goal streak at 18:26 into the period from in front of the crease with assists from Kirill Startsev and Georgi Petrov.

Arizona's second goal of the night at 17:38 into the third period was not enough and the Bees took the win.

The Killer Bees will be on the road all next week playing the Bloomington Blaze on the 14th, the Dayton Gems on the 16th, and the Quad City Mallards on the 17th. Killer Bees fans can follow the games on 956sports.com and CHL-TV.
