December 13, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have named sixth-year forward Mathieu Aubin (MA-chew, Awe-BAN) as the Team Captain.
The 25-year-old Sorel, Quebec native is now in his fifth tour of duty with the Cyclones and is the only active player on the Cincinnati roster to have been part of both Kelly Cup Championships (2008 and 2010). He ranks in the top four on most franchise all-time leader boards; Aubin is second all-time in assists (96), third in goals (69), third in points (166) and fourth in games played (178). On December 3, he skated in his 300th professional game against the Greenville Road Warriors.
"I think Mathieu is well deserved of the title and has been a big part of this organization since he got here," said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. "He has won two championships and is definitely the leader of this hockey team who demonstrates it every night. He takes care of the details on the ice and is well respected in the [locker] room. I feel the time is right to name him the next captain of the Cincinnati Cyclones."
This season, Aubin is tied for the team lead in points (15) and multi-point games (5). Coming into the week, he is currently riding a five-game point-scoring streak.
