Mateo Gil celebrated his 22nd birthday in style with a pair of home runs and three RBIs but it wasn't quite enough as the Indians fell to the Canadians, 5-4, in front of 3,762 fans at Avista Stadium on Sunday for the Fan Appreciation Day Game presented by Corona Hard Seltzer and 94.1 The Bear.
SUNDAY'S TOP PERFORMERS
- Mateo Gil recorded his second career multi-HR game and finished 3-for-5 on the day.
- Boby Johnson, Shelby Lackey, and Adam McKillican combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen.
- Hunter Goodman extended his hitting streak to six games with his second straight multi-hit performance.
NEW MASCOT DEBUTS AT AVISTA STADIUM
KC the Stratotanker soared into Avista Stadium on Friday, July 22nd in support of the Operation Fly Together campaign. Originally launched in 2021, the OFT campaign stems from a historic agreement between Team Fairchild and the baseball team, designed to celebrate the KC-135 tanker, build pride for the base's critical functions, and help better the lives of veterans from all services that have settled in the Spokane region.
KC has been created as a symbol of the campaign to evoke a positive message of this incredible airplane and the vital role of Fairchild AFB in national security.
Saturday, July 23rd - Spokane used a strong start from Mike Ruff (6-5) and three hits from birthday boy Colin Simpson to snap Vancouver's nine-game winning streak by a final of 11-2 in front of 6,051 fans at Avista Stadium for Storybook Princess Night presented by presented by KAYU FOX 28 & KXLY AM 920/100.7 FM.
