Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, WA: Despite Mitch Haniger and Alberto Rodriguez hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning, it wasn't enough to power the AquaSox past the Eugene Emeralds in Sunday's three-game series finale as they found themselves on the wrong end of yet another slugfest, falling by a score of 12-7. Eugene has taken eleven out of eighteen games against the AquaSox this season.
Staked to an early 4-0 lead, Everett pitcher Juan Mercedes struggled to hold the lead. Eugene was able to get to Mercedes in the top of the second inning when third baseman Riley Mahan hit a three-run home run to bring the Emeralds to within one.
The Emeralds added to their lead with four more runs in the top of the third inning, giving Eugene their first lead of the game. All nine Emerald batters came to the plate in the inning as Eugene held the lead throughout the game leading to their five-run victory.
Victor Labrada had just his second four-hit game of the season, going 4-5 with one RBI and one run scored. It was his first four-hit game since May 7th with the High-A Modesto Nuts. He proved to be hot all series long this weekend against Eugene going 7-13 at the plate.
The three-game series sweep for Eugene continued their edge over the AquaSox this season. Everett now finds themselves 12-12 in the second-half standings, 4.5 games behind the Vancouver Canadians (16-7). Eugene has already locked in a playoff spot by being crowned first-half champions of the Northwest League.
Everett hits the road for a very important six game series in Vancouver starting on Tuesday. The Frogs will be back at Funko Field on Tuesday, August 2nd against the Hillsboro Hops for Kids Day with a special 11:05am PDT first pitch.
