Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, WA: On Marvel's Defenders of the Diamond Night, the AquaSox could have used more Super Heroes as Eugene took the second game of the series 6-1. Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger went 1-4 in his second rehab appearance with Everett and is anticipated to be in the lineup on Sunday during the series finale.

Eugene got on the board quickly in the first inning, cashing in on a sacrifice fly by catcher Patrick Bailey. A costly balk by Frogs pitcher Jimmy Joyce in the top of the second inning allowed Eugene runners to advance to second and third base, taking away a potential inning ending double play opportunity. Emeralds right fielder Vaun Brown took advantage of the mistake with an RBI single, extending the lead to 2-0. The Ems would score two more in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.

AquaSox center fielder Victor Labrada would come through with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning, cutting the lead to 4-1. The Frogs were unable to put any more runs on the board despite a solid outing from their pitching staff.

Jimmy Joyce (4-9) finished his night going 5.0 innings giving up four runs, three walks and striking out five. Relief pitcher Fred Villarreal threw an impressive 2.0 innings allowing just one hit, no walks and two strikeouts. Villarreal has been solid for the Frogs all month long as he has allowed just five hits and three earned runs over his last 8.0 innings. He has also recorded nine strikeouts in the month of July.

Eugene picked up two more runs in the top of the ninth to complete their 6-1 victory. Emeralds starting pitcher Keaton Winn (1-2) worked efficiently, picking up the win. He threw 5.0 innings, striking out six. The Eugene bullpen was strong as well, not allowing a hit in the last four innings of the game.

The AquaSox will try to salvage game three of series tomorrow afternoon at 4:05pm PDT. Mitch Haniger will be back in the lineup for the third game of his rehab assignment with the Frogs, as Everett celebrates Military Appreciation Day. The game will be broadcast live across Snohomish County and all of Western Washington on the KRKO Radio Network with play-by-play broadcaster Pat Dillon on the call.
