Sacramento Republic FC News Release

Sacramento Republic FC will travel to Peoria, Ariz. to take on Arizona United SC on Saturday, August 2. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the Peoria Sports Complex.

The match will be the fourth and final matchup between the two sides this season. The series is even with each team with a win, loss and tie. Arizona won the first matchup in Arizona on April 19, their first win in franchise history. Republic FC forward Chad Bartlomé was the hero of the second matchup scoring late in stoppage time to salvage a tie for Republic FC. The most recent match was a 1-0 win for Republic FC in their second match at Bonney Field.

Republic FC comes into the match after playing five matches in 11 days including three friendly matches. Republic FC finished the stretch of games with an emphatic 5-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in front of a sellout crowd at Bonney Field on Sunday July 27. The sellout crowd was the eighth sellout of the season for Republic FC pushing their total season attendance to 118,107, which breaks the USL PRO record for single-season attendance.

Republic FC was led in the match by a pair of braces from forward Thomas Stewart and midfielder Rodrigo Lopez. Stewart recorded his first goal in the 7th minute of the match and soon after in the 33rd minute doubled his total for the night. With the brace on Sunday, Stewart now has seven goals in USL PRO play this season, tied for the club lead with Lopez.

Lopez had his second match with two goals and an assist. Lopez had previously recorded the same feat versus the Colorado Rapids Reserves on Friday, June 20. Lopez now has seven goals and seven assists in USL PRO this season. Lopez's seven assists leads the club and is tied for the most in USL PRO.

Republic FC goalkeeper Jake Gleeson recorded his third straight shutout on Sunday. Gleeson has lowered his goals against average to 1.06 which is fifth among USL PRO goalkeepers. Arizona United SC enters the match after playing five of their six matches in July on the road. Arizona finished the month even at 2-2-2. Arizona will look to make a strong push for the playoffs as the season comes to an end.

Republic FC has also added midfielder JJ Koval on loan from the San Jose Earthquakes. Koval had previously started and scored a goal for Republic FC on a one-day loan to play against West Bromwich Albion on July 25.

Arizona recently signed a pair former MLS forwards. The first is Long Tan, a former Vancouver Whitecaps FC and DC United player. Tan has scored two goals in five appearances since joining Arizona United on July 11. The second signing is former San Jose Earthquake Sam Garza who joined Arizona on July 23. Garza has appeared in two matches for Arizona since then both as a substitute.

Republic FC will be hosting a viewing party at de Vere's Irish Pub located at 1521 L Street in Sacramento. The match will be streamed live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday. Updates of the match will also be provided via Twitter @SacRepublicFC and by using #AZUvSRFC.
