LA Galaxy II News Release
Harrisburg, Pa. (Wednesday, July 30, 2014) - LA Galaxy II (11-6-4, 37 points) fell to the Harrisburg City Islanders, 3-1 on the road Wednesday night as a goal from Rafael Garcia wasn't enough to overcome a three-goal performance from the Islanders. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for LA Galaxy II.
Harrisburg opened the scoring inside of 20 minutes on a goal from Jamiel Hardware, assisted by Pedro Ribeiro. Hardware fired a shot from outside the 18 that took a deflection past Los Dos goalkeeper Cody Laurendi to give the City Islanders a 1-0 lead.
Los Dos answered in the 39th minute as Galaxy II captain Rafael Garcia leveled the game just before the half. Galaxy Homegrown Player Jack McBean found space inside the box before turning and passing back a ball to an oncoming Garcia, who fired a one-touch shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Harrisburg struck first in the second half, taking the lead just under 10 minutes after halftime through Jimmy McLaughlin. The Philadelphia Union loanee was played through behind the Galaxy II defense on the left side before slotting one past Laurendi to put the City Islanders up, 2-1.
Galaxy II were inches away from leveling the match late in the game, as Chandler Hoffman played a ball through to Raul Mendiola, who fired a shot from close range that bounced off the post.
Minutes before the end of the match, Harrisburg sealed the game as second-half substitution Robbie Derschang scored and the City Islanders held on for the 3-1 victory.
Los Dos will remain in Pennsylvania, traveling to take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday, August 2 at 4 p.m. PT in their final road match of four consecutive away games.
