Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles will look to continue their march to the playoffs when they visit league leaders Orlando City on Saturday at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

Charlotte is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time all season following a 2-0 win over the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, July 26 th. Ben Newnam and Jorge Herrera led the Eagles offense with goals and Alec Kann registered his second clean sheet of the season, pushing his record to 4-4-2. Herrera now leads the team with six goals and three assists on the season. Newnam registered the game winner in the 26th minute, his second goal this season.

Former Charlotte Eagle and Chicago Fire forward Giuseppe Gentile has recently signed with Orlando City. The striker scored the lone goal for the Eagles when the two teams met in May. Kevin Molino netted his first professional hat-trick for the Lions in the 3-1 victory.

Orlando will be short-handed as both Darwin Ceren and Luke Boden are both serving a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation. Boden leads the team with 1695 minutes played and sits second in assists, with three, only behind Molino. Ceren, the club's third MLS signing will create a hole in the midfield where he has played a vital role at defensive midfield.

Orlando City will look to rebound after suffering their first loss of the 2014 regular season last Sunday at Rochester. The Rhinos scored early in the match as Levi Houapeu found Colin Rolfe in the 31st minute. Rhinos' goalkeeper John McCarthy recorded his league leading 8th shutout of the season.

The playoff race is heating up with only a handful of games left in the regular season. Charlotte currently sits in a four-way tie for the 8th and final playoff spot with 24 points.

The Wilmington Hammerheads and Oklahoma City Energy are only two points ahead of the teams in 8th place. Orlando looks to stay ahead of the Richmond Kickers and with a win would clinch a place in the playoffs for their final USL PRO season.

Saturday's match will be streamed live on Orlando City's YouTube page at YouTube.com/OrlandoCitySC.
