Birmingham Legion FC News Release
MATCH INFO:
Birmingham Legion FC at Ottawa Fury FC
Friday, August 2 - 6:00PM CT Kickoff - TD Place, Ottawa, ON, Canada
Watch - ESPN+
Legion FC looks to continue to carry momentum from a three-game win streak to Canada to face Ottawa Fury FC.
Head Coach Tom Soehn said, "the growth of the team through this month of July has been massive. Now we hit the road and we just must learn to do it on the road. Now we hit that second test of what we want to become."
Ottawa Fury FC currently sits in 7th place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings. The team is strong at home, having not lost at TD Place since April 6th, a stretch of six wins at home in a row.
The Fury have scored the sixth-most goals in the Eastern Conference at 32, but spread the wealth, as Moar Saub and Wal Fall lead the team in goals with seven each. Fall is suspended for this match following yellow card accumulation. Forward Carl Haworth leads the team in assists (5) and chances created (35), but the engine of the side is midfielder Charlie Ward, who leads the entire USL Championship with 1,327 passes this season, over 200 more than the next player.
#9 Chandler Hoffman ruptured his PCL on July 13 and is out the remainder of the season. #17 Gael Mabiala is also unavailable for selection, as he recovers from an ankle sprain, as is #14 Daniel Johnson (calf strain), per the VIVAHealth injury report. All four of Legion FC's loaners, #7 Brian Wright, #11 JJ Williams, #21 Zach Herivaux, and #27 Eddie Opoku are all available to play, as is newcomer Akeem Ward.
The only prior meeting between these two teams went to the Canadian squad, 1-0 on May 16 in Birmingham on a goal by Haworth.
BHM heads to Tampa next week as the squad hits the road again to play the Rowdies on Saturday, August 10 at 6:30PM CT. Follow @bhmlegion on Twitter for live game updates, and watch live on My68 and ESPN+.
The next Legion FC home game takes place on Saturday, August 17 at BBVA Field versus fellow USL Championship expansion side Memphis 901 FC at 7:00PM. Tickets are available at bhmlegion.com/tickets or by calling the Legion FC Ticket Office at 205-600-4635.
