Match Preview: Bethlehem Steel FC Travels to Take on Saint Louis FC Tomorrow
July 26, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Philadelphia Union II News Release
**CHESTER, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC (6-10-4, 11th place in East) faces another tough road test this weekend as the club travels to take on Saint Louis FC (5-6-6, 12th place in East) at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo. tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. ET, as the Steel sit just two points below the USL Cup Playoffs line. Last time the two sides met, it was a heated 3-1 affair at La Salle University's McCarthy Stadium, with the Steel's Faris and Saint Louis' Oscar Umar each seeing red. With the race for the playoffs already heating up, this could be another chippy fight as both teams look to build momentum for the stretch run.
The Boys in Blue showed up big last weekend, picking up the club's first all-time win over back-to-back USL Cup Champions Louisville City FC at their own ground. The three points came behind a rip of a strike from Walter Cortés and an 11-save Player of the Week performance from Union Academy goalkeeper Tomás Romero. Saint Louis has had a rough stretch since falling 3-1 to the Steel, going 0-3-2 over the last five games, but the Steel need to be careful. A wounded enemy in their own home can create dangerous situations for any visiting team.
It hasn't been too long since the two teams met and you can be sure that Saint Louis is still stewing over the last result. The Missouri side looks a bit different this time around, but they can be just as strong as they were in the beginning of the season if they find their form again. Faris, team captain James Chambers and Walter Cortés all struck the back of the net for the Steel in their 3-1 over Saint Louis FC earlier this year and with Cortés heating up and scoring two more since that match the Steel attack could be picking up steam at the right time to take three from this one.
The Boys in Blue square off against Saint Louis FC at World Wide Technology Soccer Park tomorrow night, July 27, at 8:30 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN+.
