Atlanta holds a 5-6-1 all-time record against Columbus Crew: 2-3-1 at home, 3-2-0 on the road, and 0-1-0 at neutral sites in the series. This is the second meeting between the two clubs this season, with Columbus winning 2-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on May 28.
Atlanta fell 2-1 to New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in its last match, as Josef Martínez scored the 100th goal of his MLS career (regular season and playoffs) in stoppage time to pull one back for the hosts.
With an assist on Martínez's goal, Luiz Araújo became the first Atlanta United player this season to record an assist in three-consecutive games.
Santiago Sosa won eight aerial duels against Red Bulls, the most of any player in the match. His tally is the second-most aerial duels he's won in an MLS match, with his personal record of 10 also coming against Red Bulls on June 27, 2021.
Since Rocco Ríos Novo made his MLS debut against Inter Miami on June 19, no goalkeeper has made as many successful passes as the 20-year-old. Making 373 passes on the season so far, 34 passes separate him and the next-closest goalkeeper, New York City FC's Sean Johnson.
Columbus is coming off a 1-1 draw away at Colorado Rapids, with the Crew unable to hang on after Cucho Hernández scored a fifth-minute goal. The Colombian is one of the most dangerous goal scorers in MLS, with only Sebastián Driussi and Brandon Vázquez scoring more than Hernández's six goals since he made his league debut on July 10.
