PEARL, Miss. -- Chris Mason threw a three-hit shutout at Trustmark Park Sunday evening, vaulting the Montgomery Biscuits past the Mississippi Braves, 7-0, in the lid-opener of a six-game series.

For Mason, it was not only his first career shutout but also his first career complete game. For the Biscuits, it was their league-leading eighth shutout. It was their second complete game shutout in three days, after Mike Prochaska blanked the Mobile BayBears at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday. It also gave the Biscuits an early share of the lead in the South Division.

Mason needed 102 pitches to complete his gem, allowing no runners to advance beyond second base. He faced just 31 hitters along the way and struck out six. Mason, now 10-3, became the first pitcher in Double-A to reach 10 wins.

Braves pitcher Matt Harrison matched Mason out-for-out until the fourth inning, as both starters retired the first 10 hitters. But the Biscuits caught up to him in the fourth, with two-out RBI singles by Evan Longoria and Chris Nowak. Longoria added two more hits and two more RBIs, launching himself past Mississippi's Matt Esquivel for the league RBI lead.

The Biscuits pinned one more run on Harrison before he finished his outing at seven innings.

Montgomery's last four runs came against reliever Tyler Bullock, with three runs' worth of extra offense in the eighth and one in the ninth.

The Biscuits, now 6-1 in the second half, send righty Derek Feldkamp to the mound Monday night for a 7:05 p.m. game.
