THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Martinsville scored six runs in the first inning of Saturday night's game at Finch Field and was able to survive a ninth inning comeback from Thomasville to stave off the HiToms 11-9.

Martinsville (11-13) sent 11 hitters to the plate in the first inning against Kyle Barbeck (L, 0-2) with the big hits a two-run home run from John Fairclouth and a two-run single from Trey Davis and after the first inning dust had settled, the Mustangs had a 6-0 lead.

Thomasville (11-13) battled back in the third inning with four runs with the biggest blow a three-run blast from Jacob Rogers to make it 6-4 after three.

Both teams swapped runs over the middle innings, but Martinsville right hander Drew Provence (W, 3-2) was able to keep the HiToms at bay through six innings.

After a four run top of the ninth in which Nike Ferdindad and Eli Hynes hit back-to-back home runs the HiToms trailed 11-6 entering their last chance.

With two outs in the ninth inning, the Tommies put together a couple of singles and a walk to make it 11-7 for pinch hitter, Garrett Koster, who delivered for the HiToms with a two-run single to make it 11-9.

Following a Tyler Hall single, the bases were loaded for Zack Briggs who on a three ball, two strike count, struck out on a check swing to give Martinsville an 11-9 win.

The HiToms are back at Finch Field tomorrow at 5:00 when they welcome the Asheboro Copperheads to town for the final time in the first half.
