Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - Jordan Glover pitched seven strong innings for the Steamers (17-6), allowing six hits and two runs (both earned) to the Peninsula Pilots (13-11) at Hicks Field. Unfortunately Deshorn Lake, making his first start for the Pilots, bested him with 7.1 innings pitched, allowing only three hits and no runs in the 3-1 Pilot win.

Through five full innings the ball game was notched at 0-0 between Edenton and Peninsula. Glover had allowed three hits and one walk and Lake had allowed three hits and two walks.

In the top of the sixth Peninsula broke through with a lead-off double by Chad Pinder. A wild pitch from Glover moved Pinder to third with Jake Cave at the plate. Cave was retired for the first out of the inning as the Steamers pulled the infield in. With Terrell Joyce up to bat another wild pitch allowed Pinder to score and give Peninsula a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh Peninsula added a run to their lead. Jimmy Rider singled and stole second base. He came home to score on Ivan Hartle's single that was chopped through the pulled in infield to give Peninsula a 2-0 lead.

One more run was brought home by Peninsula for insurance in the top of the eighth. Chad Pinder singled against Dustin Quattrocchi to lead off the eighth. Jake Cave singled Pinder to third base and with David Teasley pitching a balk was called that brought home Pinder from third and gave the Pilots the 3-0 lead.

The Steamers, in the ninth, got a lead-off single from Zach Stewart. Vinnie Mejia singled Stewart to second base. Tim Saunders hit into a fielder's choice after a wild pitch moved Stewart to third base. Mejia was put-out at second and Stewart remained at third base. Nick Gaeta hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Stewart and cut the lead to 3-1 Pilots. That was all she wrote for the Steamer offense on this night and Peninsula was victorious 3-1. Mike Devine earned his sixth save of the season.

Glover took his first loss of the season and Lake earned his first win of the season for the Pilots. Edenton fell to 17-6 on the season and Peninsula moved back into second place in the Northern Division with the win at 13-11.

Edenton welcomes in the Wilson Tobs tomorrow night, needing one win to clinch the Northern Division first half title and ensure a Pettit Cup playoff spot in August.
