Forest City Owls News Release

GASTONIA, N.C. - Midnight Madness belonged to the Gastonia Grizzlies, 2-0, at Sims Legion Park early Friday morning. The Owls fall to 15-9, while the Grizzlies improve to 13-11.

Ryan Hander took the mound for Forest City for the fourth time this season. The Nebraska righty worked six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, striking out four batters and walking one. Despite Hander's best efforts, Gastonia starter Talton Cherry came away with the victory. Cherry tossed five innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit, striking out three hitters and issuing three bases on balls. Hander took his second loss of the season.

Gastonia struck first in the bottom of the first inning. With one out and 2B Dan Hennigan standing on third base, SS Joe Ramírez chopped a comebacker to the mound. Ramírez beat Hander's throw to first and Hennigan hustled home to open the scoring for the Grizzlies. Gastonia led 1-0 through the first frame.

The Grizzlies added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Tyler White smacked a tricky chopper up the middle. Owls SS Reed Harper lost his footing as he charged toward the ball, allowing White to reach first inning and Dylan Nasiatka home. The Grizzlies led 2-0 after seven complete. Derek Epps closed the door on the Owls in the top of the ninth, recording his league-leading ninth save of the season.

The Owls will enjoy a day off Saturday. They return to action Sunday afternoon at McNair Field against the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
