Martin gets the trifecta

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce that goaltender Joel Martin was selected as the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week for the period ending March 5th.

In three games last week, Martin was a brick wall stopping 84 of the 87 shots he faced. Martin, who went 3-0-0, earned his league best seventh shutout of the season last Wednesday (3/1) in a 5-0 victory over the Port Huron Flags. For the week, Martin had a 1.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .966.

Martin leads UHL in goals against average (2.15) and shutouts (7). The native of Three Hills, Manitoba is also tied for the league lead in wins (28) and is second in save percentage (0.923).

The Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week Award is the third earned by Martin in his UHL career, with the previous honors all occurring this season (November 20th, January 1st). The award is also the eleventh collected by a K-Wings goaltender in the team's UHL history.

The K-Wings, who start the week in second place in the Central Division with 86 points, will have the opportunity to take over the division's top spot, as they travel to Muskegon this Friday (3/10) night.

Kalamazoo will return home to Wings Stadium for two games this weekend. On Saturday (3/11), the K-Wings will host the Port Huron Flags at 7:30 p.m. on UHL Cross Checks Colon Cancer Night. Cancer survivor, Molly McMaster, will become the first women to dress for the K-Wings, as she will be in the team's starting lineup.

The K-Wings will conclude the week on Sunday (3/12) with a 4 p.m. face-off on WKFR K-Wings Kidz Club Day against the Muskegon Fury. Following the game, fans will have their last opportunity of the season to skate with the K-Wings. Admission for the public skate is $5, skate rental if needed is $2.
