
Danbury's Omicioli and Kalamazoo's Martin earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Danbury Trashers center Drew Omicioli has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Joel Martin has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 5th, 2006.
Omicioli completed the week with seven points (3g, 4a) and a plus-4 rating in three games played. He tallied six points (3g, 3a) in Wednesday's 7-0 victory vs. Muskegon. It was his first "hat trick" (3g) of the season as he also netted the game-winning goal. The six points tied a Danbury team record for most points in a game. On Saturday, he dished out an assist in the 3-2 shootout loss to Quad City. The 26-year-old native of West Warwick, Rhode Island is tied for fourth in the UHL with 34 goals this season. It is the second consecutive UHL Player of the Week honor for Omicioli.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack Frostbite center Ryan Prentice, Elmira center Konstatin Kalmikov, Flint center Terry Marchant, Fort Wayne left wing Lance Galbraith, Kalamazoo center Jason Deitsch, Missouri left wing Jim Duhart, Motor City center Adam Edinger, Muskegon left wing Ryan Keller, Quad City forward Rafal Martynowski, Richmond forward Evgeny Lazarev, Roanoke right wing Matt Elich, and Rockford left wing Jason Notermann.
Martin finished the week with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA), a .966 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. He stopped all 22 Port Huron shots in the 5-0 victory on Wednesday. It was his league-leading seventh shutout of the season. On Friday, he made 42 saves in the 5-2 win vs. Danbury. He made 20 saves in the 7-1 win vs. Missouri on Saturday. The 23-year-old native of Three Hills, Alberta leads all UHL goaltenders with a 2.15 GAA and ranks second with a .923 SPCT. Martin is tied for the league lead in wins (28) and has won his last five starts. It is the third UHL Goaltender of Week honor for him this season.
