
Vipers drop two on the road to the Fort Wayne Komets and the Motor City Mechanics

LAST WEEK'S GAMES: The Vipers traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana and Fraser, Michigan over the weekend and lost two tough ones to the Komets and the Motor City Mechanics.
Friday March 3rd @ Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne Komets 5, Roanoke Valley Vipers 3
Matt Elich, Mike Wiggins, and Jonathan Charette each scored for the Vipers in Friday's game, but the Komets outscored the Vipers each time they got a goal on the board and came out on top by a final score of 5-3 at the Allen County War Memorial.
Saturday, March 4th @ Motor City
Motor City Mechanics 3, Roanoke Valley Vipers 1
Motor City scored first on Saturday night just 1:48 into play, but Mark Scott got the Vipers on the board at 12:49 of the first period to even the score. Trevor Cunning allowed a bad goal to Adam Edinger at 1:45 of the second period as the Mechanics regained the lead, and the Vipers offense came up empty for the remainder of the game. Chris Gignac gave the Mechanics an insurance goal at 19:43 of the third on an empty netter to secure Motor City's lead and the win.
THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Vipers will host their division rivals the Adirondack Frostbite and the Richmond RiverDogs for games on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday this week before the Rockford IceHogs visit Roanoke for the first time this season on Sunday for a 5:05p.m. puck drop.

VIPER BITES
-Vipers goaltender Trevor Cunning was nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending 3/6/06. Cunning suffered two losses to the Fort Wayne Komets and the Motor City Mechanics last week, but stopped 33 of 35 shots in an excellent performance against Motor City on Saturday.
-New Viper right wing Matt Elich received the team's nomination for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week for the week ending 3/6/06. Elich ended the week with three points, two (1G, 1A) of which came in the Vipers' game Friday night in Fort Wayne.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Mark Scott visited Jackson Middle School at 1:30p.m. Monday to speak to the students during a pre-S.O.L. pep rally.
On Thursday, March 9th, Vipers players will participate in Guns and Hoses practice with the firefighters and police officers who will be playing in the Third Annual Guns and Hoses charity hockey game. Several players will also participate in the Guns and Hoses game itself after the Vipers game on Sunday, March 12th as they act as coaches and officials for the charity event.
Don't forget the Vipers' ongoing Coat and Blanket Drive sponsored by Grand Home Furnishings. All season long you can bring a new or gently used coat or blanket out to the Vipers game to be placed in one of the drop boxes, which are located throughout the arena and concourse areas. All donations will go directly to the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), and local firefighters will be on hand to "Pass the Boot" and collect monetary donations for the MDA during the Vipers game.
