Marlies Reassign Three Players

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced Sunday that defenceman Reid Cashman has been reassigned to the ECHL's Columbia Inferno. In addition, the Marlies have loaned defenceman Patrick Wellar and forward Tyler Doig to Columbia.

Reid Cashman, a 6'2, 205-pound native of Red Wing, Minnesota, has appeared in five games this season for the Toronto Marlies, recording two assists and a plus-two rating. In 21 games with the Columbia Inferno, Cashman has registered 10 points (one goal, nine assists) and 14 penalty minutes.

Tyler Doig, a native of Seaforth, Ontario, has played in two games for the Marlies and has registered an assist. He has skated in 38 games for Columbia, recording 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) and a plus-six rating. The 6'0, 180-pound forward is fourth on the Inferno in points this season and second in assists. Doig played in the ECHL's All-Star Game on January 23, 2008 and registered an assist for the American Conference.

Patrick Wellar, a 6'3, 210-pound native of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, has appeared in four games for the Toronto Marlies this season. Wellar was held scoreless in four contests with the Marlies and has registered two penalty minutes. He has skated in 36 games for the Inferno this season and leads all defenceman on Columbia with 21 points (six goals, 15 assists).

The Marlies travel to Rochester on Friday evening to take on the Americans - AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers - at the Blue Cross Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7:35 p.m. The Marlies will return home to Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday, February 2 to host Rochester for a 4:00 p.m. match-up.
