Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen peppered Jacob Markstrom with 41 shots on Saturday night but the San Antonio Rampage held on for a 2-1 win for the second night in a row. Chris Bruton's goal stood up as the game's only tally until the Rampage scored twice in a six-minute stretch of the third period to put San Antonio ahead for good.
Jake Allen made 25 saves for the Rivermen who fell to 29-24-2-1 on the year. The Rivermen now sit in a tie, with the Rochester Americans, for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The first goal of the game didn't occur until the 10:27 mark of the second period. A Cade Fairchild shot from inside the left faceoff circle produced a rebound for Bruton who slid the puck past the left leg of Markstrom for his first goal of the year.
San Antonio was able to tie the contest on the power play. Bracken Kearns found a lose puck behind Jake Allen and tapped it across the goal line just before the net was dislodged. The goal, scored at 3:49 of the third period, was the 15th goal of the season for Kearns.
Greg Rallo scored at 9:42 to give the Rampage their first lead of the night. With the puck behind the goal line Kearns made a pass to Rallo who beat Allen between the legs.
The Rivermen made a final push with the extra attacker but Markstrom held his ground for his seventh win of the year.
San Antonio went 1-for-2 on the man advantage while Peoria failed to score on their three powerplay opportunities.
The Rivermen host the Abbotsford Heat tomorrow at 5 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 309-676-1040 or by visiting www.rivermen.net.
