Syracuse, NY (Feb.25, 2012) - Dan Sexton and Patrick Maroon each tallied once as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Sexton opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 10:34 mark of the second period. Defenseman Matt Smaby fed the puck across open ice to Sexton who was all alone and able to slide the puck past Penguins goaltender Patrick Killeen. Killeen had come into the game in relief of Scott Munroe, who left the game due to injury, just a few minutes earlier.

The Penguins responded by capitalizing on their next power play. Crunch netminder Antero Niittymaki made the initial save on a shot from Ryan Craig, Craig then collected the rebound and pushed the puck past Niittymaki to even the score at the 14:15 mark of the middle frame.

Maroon scored what would prove to be the game winner with just eight seconds remaining in the second period. Maroon's wrister from the top of the circle beat Killeen to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead, the goal was Maroon's 25th of the season.

The Penguins applied heavy pressure, outshooting the Crunch 36-19, but Niittymaki turned aside 35 shots in the victory.

The Crunch will travel to Adirondack to face the Phantoms in a 3 p.m. tilt at the Glens Falls Civic Center on February 26.
