
Marks Masterful in Beating Memphis

Memphis, TN - Chris Getz collected three hits and drove in a trio of runs to support a sensational pitching performance by Justin Marks as Omaha downed Memphis, 5-1, Monday night in the opener of a three-game set at AutoZone Park. The Storm Chasers won for just the third time in nine meetings with the Redbirds this season to improve to 41-50 but remain 5 1/2 games behind front-running Iowa in the American Conference North Division.
The visitors put runners at the corners with one out in the first inning against Boone Whiting but did not score. However, they strung together three straight singles with two outs in the second, the last of which by Getz drove in Quintin Berry with the game's first run before Memphis answered in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI hit from Travis Tartamella. Omaha responded in the next half inning with a solo home run from Max Ramirez, his first long ball since May 19, to reclaim the lead for good.
Whiting lasted five frames and left trailing 2-1 after yielding six hits, walking three and striking out five. Jorge Rondon and Mitchell Boggs each tossed a scoreless inning in relief in front of Mark Rzepczynksi, who took over the in the eighth. The veteran southpaw gave up a leadoff double to Irving Falu and hit Berry before Paulo Orlando dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Getz then followed with a double to score both of them to expand the lead to the 4-1. Anthony Seratelli chased home Getz with a two-out single to knock in his 30th run of the season and account for the final margin.
Marks allowed just runner to advance as far as second base after the second inning and retired the last six batters he faced to finish off his 7 2/3 inning performance during which he allowed seven hits, walked only one and fanned seven. The left-hander won his second straight turn and gave way to Michael Mariot, who recorded the final four outs, all with a strikeout, to finish off the Chasers 21st win away from home.
