Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Round Rock, TX - Jake Brigham and Joseph Ortiz combined on a four-hitter as Round Rock shut out Omaha, 4-0, Sunday night in the last of four meetings at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers split this series and wound up dropping five out of eight at the home of the American Conference South Division leaders, who will make their first visit of the season to Nebraska on Thursday.
Yordano Ventura struck out five of the first seven hitters he faced through two scoreless frames before the hosts pushed across the game's first two runs in the third inning. Mike Olt led off with a base hit, moved to third base on a Leury Garcia single and scored on a Greg Miclat base hit. Yangervis Solarte then grounded into a force out at second but shortstop Chris Getz's relay throw to first was an errant one that allowed Garcia to score.
Omaha's hard-throwing right-hander stranded a runner at third in the fourth when he struck out Mike Biannuci and Olt to end the inning and record the sixth and seventh of his Triple-A high nine punch outs. However, the 22-year-old wasn't as fortunate in the fifth when Solarte doubled with two down to bring Miclat around from first with the third run of the night for the Express. Ventura gave up six hits and did not walk a batter and was followed by Buddy Baumann, who yielded one hit and fanned a pair over two scoreless innings.
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk in his debut for the Texas Rangers organization and was lifted in the eighth for pinch-runner Jared Hoying, who would score on Joey Butler's two-base hit off Michael Mariot to account for the final margin.
Brigham gave up four singles, walked two and struck out four over his seven innings to pick up his third win. Ortiz took over and set down all six batters he faced to record his first save, as the pair did not allow the visitors to advance a runner past second base.
Omaha will send left-hander Justin Marks to the mound in Monday night's series opener against Memphis right-hander Boone Whiting. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
