Mark Grieb honored by Maxwell Football Club

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Mar. 3, 2005) – The prestigious Maxwell Football Club has named San Jose quarterback Mark Grieb as the recipient of their first ever Arena Football League Player of the Year award for his outstanding performance during the 2004 season.

Grieb, an eight-year veteran, set AFL records last season for completion percentage (73.0) and passer rating (133.5). He also set team records for pass completions, yards and touchdowns. For the year, Grieb completed 335-of-459 passes for 4,111 yards with 75 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. More importantly, Grieb led San Jose to an 11-5 regular season record and an ArenaBowl championship, where he was named Offensive MVP after throwing a record eight touchdown passes in a 69-62 victory over Arizona.

This year's 68th Annual Maxwell Awards Banquet will be held on Mar. 4 in Atlantic City. However, due to the SaberCats game on Sunday, Mar. 6, Grieb will be unable to attend.

The Maxwell Football Club honors excellence in football on all levels, including high school, college and professional. This is the first year that the Maxwell Football Club has honored an athlete from the AFL.

Among the players joining Grieb are the Colts' Peyton Manning (Professional Player of the Year), Oklahoma's Jason White (College Player of the Year) and high school student Ryan Greiser (Area Student-Athlete Player of the Year). In addition, the Maxwell Football Club is honoring San Diego's Marty Schottenheimer (Professional Coach of the Year) and Utah's Urban Meyer (College Coach of the Year) for their efforts behind the bench last season.
