L.A.'s Remy Hamilton named AFL Kicker of the Month
March 3, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- Avenger kicker Remy Hamilton was honored today by the Arena Football League as the "Kicker of the Month." This marks the second time in his eight-year AFL career that he has earned this particular award.
Since the season opener on Jan. 30 and throughout the month of February, Hamilton has been nearly perfect. Over the course of those five games, he is 15-of-16 on field goals (including boots from 48 and 50 yards out) and opened the year by hitting his first 11 three-pointers, which established a new AFL all-time single-season record. Dating back to the end of last season, Hamilton converted on 12 consecutive field goal attempts, which is an overall all-time AFL record for consecutive field goals.
He also has made 27-of-29 extra point attempts, leads all AFL kickers in scoring with 72 points (seventh overall) and has been credited with four tackles.
Hamilton kicked a career-high five field goals to help the Avengers beat the Austin Wranglers, 64-51, on Feb. 11. Only three other players in AFL history have kicked more field goals in a single game. He scored a total of 22 points in the victory at Austin and also came up with a key fumble recovery in the third quarter. For his efforts, he was selected as the "U.S. Army Ironman of the Game," becoming the first kicker in AFL history to earn that honor.
In Week 2, Hamilton kicked four field goals and scored 16 points in a 46-41 victory over the Georgia Force and was named the "Offensive Player of the Game." With 15 field goals already this season, he is on pace to break his personal single-season record of 19 (set during his rookie year with the Grand Rapids Rampage in 1998) and his own Avenger franchise record of 16 (set in 2002).
With a grand total of 949 points and 119 field goals in his AFL career, Hamilton currently ranks at No. 3 on the AFL's all-time scoring by kickers and field goals made charts. He is one of five players in league history to boot over 100 field goals.
The AFL also announced today that Dallas Desperados wide receiver/defensive back Will Pettis, New Orleans VooDoo quarterback Andy Kelly, Colorado Crush defensive specialist Rashad Floyd and Georgia Force offensive specialist Troy Bergeron have been named U.S. Army Ironman, Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Rookie of the Month, respectively.
The Avengers (3-2) will take on the Arizona Rattlers (1-4) on Sunday, March 6, at America West Arena. The game is set to kick off at 5 p.m. (Pacific) and will be broadcast on KTLK AM-1150, beginning with the "Vision Wireless Countdown to Kickoff" pregame show at 4:30 p.m.
Prorated seven-game season ticket packages, which start at $73.50, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com. Single-game tickets may be purchased at the STAPLES Center box office, at all Ticketmaster locations, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com and by calling 213-480-3232.
