Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (March 3, 2005) – In a move to bolster an offense that ranks next-to-last in the AFL in points per game, the Kats have claimed 2003 AFL Rookie of the Year Travis McGriff off of waivers. McGriff, an offensive specialist, started the first four games of this season at offensive specialist for the Orlando Predators, catching 20 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns.

McGriff (5-8, 185) comes to the Kats with an impressive resume. As an AFL rookie with Orlando in 2003, the former University of Florida receiver caught 81 passes for 1,216 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. He also added more than 1,000 kick return yards and added another touchdown. Last season, he missed the first six games of the regular season with a hamstring injury. He returned to catch 34 passes for 473 yards and 12 touchdowns in five games, but tore a thumb ligament in Week 12 against New Orleans and missed the final five games of the regular season. For his career, he has 135 receptions for 1,910 yards and 41 touchdowns in 23 career games played.

"Travis is an excellent player who is very quick and catches the ball exceptionally well," said Kats head coach Pat Sperduto. "We think he will be a very good addition to our offense."

McGriff, who was waived by Orlando after the sudden emergence of rookie OS Jimmy Fryzel, is not likely to suit up for this week's game at Chicago, but is expected to be activated for next week's home game against Colorado. To make room for McGriff on the active roster, Nashville placed WR/DB Rich Musinski on injured reserve. Musinski (6-0, 205) is suffering from a hamstring injury and will miss at least the next two games.

The Kats (1-4) head to Chicago to face the Rush on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be carried live on 104.5 The Zone. Nashville returns home to face the Colorado Crush on Sat., March 12 at 7:30 p.m.
