Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon gave up two runs over eight innings on Sunday night, and the Kane County Cougars outhit the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but it was the Rattlers who pulled out a 2-0 victory over the Cougars in front of 8,206 at Elfstrom Stadium. Marimon was out-dueled by Tyler Thornburg, who tossed a nine-inning complete-game shutout. The Cougars' win streak ended at three, though they have won 13 of their last 18 games.

All four of the hits Marimon allowed went for extra bases, including a pair of solo homers by Tyler Roberts -- in the third and eighth -- that accounted for the game's runs. Marimon (3-3) walked only one and fanned six in the loss, and he's yielded just eight earned runs in 35 2/3 innings over his last six starts for a 2.02 ERA in that span. Jon Keck worked a scoreless ninth in relief.

Meanwhile the Cougars' offense had five hits, but all were singles, and four of the five were infield hits. The Cougars were unable to cash in a pair of Wisconsin errors and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Thornburg's nine-inning complete-game shutout was the first against the Cougars since September 3, 2006.
