BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - Hector Guevara went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and George Jensen pitched effectively into the seventh inning, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods (28-23) to an 8-4 Sunday victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (28-20) at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Hot Rods climbed with 1 1/2 games of the division-leading Lugnuts in the Midwest League standings.

Returning after a day off due to shoulder cramps on Friday, Guevara plagued Lugnuts pitching from the ninth spot in the Hot Rods' lineup.

After providing a single amid a two-run third against Lansing starter Sean Nolin (Loss, 1-1), the 19-year-old second baseman lined his third home run of the year with mates at every base in the fourth inning, turning a close game into a 6-0 Bowling Green lead.

In the eighth inning, Guevara catalyzed another rally with a leadoff double off of reliever Alex Pepe. Following a one-out walk to Robby Price, Phil Wunderlich lined a two-out RBI single to score Guevara, with Price scoring as well on left fielder Marcus Knecht's subsequent error.

The run support was more than enough for Jensen (Win, 4-2), who struck out seven Lugnuts in 6 1/3 innings. The only blemish on the Minnesotan's statline: Kevin Nolan's leadoff home run in the seventh, the first professional homer for Lansing's second baseman.

The Lugnuts managed three runs in the ninth against Eliazer Suero thanks to a Balbino Fuenmayor pinch-hit RBI double and a Bryson Namba two-run double, but the offense proved too little, too late.

Lansing right-hander Drew Hutchison (1-2, 3.98) starts against Bowling Green southpaw Jimmy Patterson (3-0, 4.20) in the finale of the four-game series, scheduled for 3:05 p.m. EDT on Monday afternoon.

The Lugnuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium to take on the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday, May 31st, for a Dollar Deal Day. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
