Marek Alscher Joins AHL's Charlotte Checkers on ATO

Charlotte, N.C. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to share that defenseman Marek Alscher has joined the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League on an Amateur Try Out for their Calder Cup Playoff run this spring.

Alscher, 19, posted career-best numbers in his second season in Portland with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 60 regular-season games in 2022-23, plus another four helpers in nine postseason contests this year. The Kladno, CZE native was selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round, #93 overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft following his rookie WHL campaign in 2021-22.

Alscher maintains two years of junior eligibility and can be assigned to Portland ahead of the 2023-24 season at the Panthers' discretion. He is expected to compete at the Panthers' development camp and training camp later this summer.
