2023 U18 World Championship Round-Robin Recap

PORRENTRUY, Switzerland - Canada advanced past the round-robin stage at the 2023 IIHF U18 World Championship, solidifying a top-two spot in Group A heading into the quarter-finals, earning a 8-3 win over Czechia on Tuesday morning.

Canada's Under-18 club went 3-1-0 in preliminary action, bouncing back from a 8-0 loss to Sweden in the opening game, winning their next three contests; 8-0 over Germany, 4-3 versus Slovakia and 8-3 against Czechia.

Pats forward Tanner Howe grabbed an assist in four round-robin contests. Top prospect Matthew Wood tallied five goals and two assists for seven points in four games, scoring a hat-trick in Canada's win over Czechia.

Canada is now setting up for a quarter-final clash with host nation Switzerland on Thursday. They finished second in their group behind Sweden who went a perfect 4-0, gathering 12 points while Canada picked up nine.
